Robot Xmas - Holiday Edition Advanced Block Printing
Let’s make Holiday cards using all the printmaking techniques we have played with these past few months. We will be carving a larger block, incorporating scratch foam color plates and experimenting with other mixed media to complete a set of personalized holiday cards.
Learn about Chine-collé, a special technique in printmaking, in which the image is transferred to a surface that is bonded to a heavier support in the printing process. One purpose is to allow the print-maker to print on a much more delicate surface (such as Japanese paper or linen) which pulls finer details off the plate.
Carve and print a 3.5”x 5” plastic block using a lino-cutter. Cut a foam-core registration plate for accurate printing (registration technique).
Bring in your wood plates or additional blocks you may have carved if you would like to print them in your holiday cards.
The $10 materials fee covers supplies (plastic block, paper, inks) and will enable you to take home a carved block and a set of your own hand printed note cards and gift bags.
Special Considerations and Warnings
Wear a shirt that you can get messy in, bring your journal, sketch book, or blank note cards if you want to print additional images to take home with you
