About this Event

In this class we will make a shave brush using a 1.5 x 3 inch piece of wood and a Maggard Razors synthetic shave brush head. The process for the shave brush is similar to making a wine bottle stopper as they are turned on a specialized chuck. The wood will be sanded and polished using a special mineral oil-beeswax paste that will provide a moisture barrier.

Class Time
• 2 hours scheduled, but may not take the entire time.

Techniques & Tools
• Drilling the blank to both fit the chuck and accommodate the brush head
• Turning the brush handle
• Sanding and finishing the handle
• Gluing the brush head into the handle

Materials
• 1.5 x 3 inch wood blank
• Lathe tools
• 3/8 inch drill bit
• 24mm Forstner drill bit
• Sandpaper
• Wood Finish
• Epoxy

The instructor will provide a shave soap sampler for each student so they can use the brush soon after making it.

We will be using Quilted Maple and Orange Osage for the handles, which is what we used during the wood safety razor class. If you came to one of the safety razor classes and want to make a matching brush, here is your chance!

Special Considerations and Warnings

Please make sure to wear short sleeves, do not wear any dangling jewelry, and tie back any long hair. Bring eye and breathing protection at all times when using a wood lathe.
