About this Event

In this class we will make a safety razor using a Craft Supplies USA razor kit and a pen blank. The process for the razor barrel is similar to most pen kits as they have a brass center tube, and are turned on a mandrel using end bushings as size guides. The wood will be sanded and polished using a special mineral oil-beeswax paste that will provide a moisture barrier.

Class Time
• 2 hours scheduled, but may not take the entire time.

Techniques & Tools
• Cutting and drilling the pen blank to size
• Gluing in the brass center tube
• Turning the barrel for the razor
• Sanding and finishing the barrel
• Assembling the razor

Materials
• Safety Razor Kit & Pen Blank
• Lathe tools
• End bushings
• Pen Mandrel
• Sandpaper
• Wood Finish

The instructor will provide 1 blade for each razor along with additional information on sourcing blades, techniques for using a safety razor, cleaning and maintaining the razor.

I have a mix of 2 acrylic and 2 wood blanks left from the prior classes. If you sign up for the class and have a preference, please PM me to reserve one or the other. If you don't have a preference then show up and pick from what's available.

Special Considerations and Warnings

Please make sure to wear short sleeves, do not wear any dangling jewelry, and tie back any long hair. Bring eye and breathing protection at all times when using a wood lathe.
