About this Event

Introduction to using the Bench Top Sherline Lathe.

This high-precision lathe is much smaller than the Colchester and is better suited for the beginner, working on small projects, art projects or jewelry projects. It is well-suited for high precision turning on small pieces that would be cumbersome on the Colchester. Both plastics and metals can be machined. Skills learned here will easily apply later when moving to larger lathe projects

First part of class will be in the classroom, second part at the lathe in the machine shop.

$5 covers cost 1" x 4" piece of 6061 Aluminum bar stock student is provided for their first project or to practice on. Balance goes toward acquiring consumable tools.

Operations covered will include Facing, sizing, drilling and parting. Participants will each perform some hands-on tasks at the lathe.
