About this Event

The Calendar system doesn't currently allow for JSM Orientation as a pre-requisite, but you should have taken the basic orientation before this class. Things will make more sense, and basic safety and proper use will already have been covered.

Refresh basic use and care of the Hydroflux mini-torch. Then learn the principles of how to solder copper bearing and precious metals. Participants will learn what materials can be soldered, types of solder and their appropriate choice, proper cleaning, preparation, heating, and finishing of the piece. Identifying unsuccessful solder joints and troubleshooting will be included as time allows.

After the demonstration, participants will have a chance to practice the techniques on copper plate and silver wire. Participants can use their own materials, or a practice kit can be obtained from the instructor for $3 to cover cost of materials.

Special Considerations and Warnings

PPE of closed toe shoes, safety glasses and apron are required for practice. Safety glasses STRONGLY suggested for observation. No loose clothing, but long sleeves are okay of fitted.
