About this Event
Join us to learn the basics of making hand forged iron and steel objects, no experience required.
Each class will have a project to make with experienced instructors showing you the techniques required to build the project and take it home with you.
All tools and equipment are provided, so come out and have some fun building a new skill.
Suggested donation of $10 to cover the cost of materials and fuel.
If you have some experience and would like to work on your own projects you can also come out for some open forge time.
Assistance before and after the event with setup and tear-down would be appreciated.
Special Considerations and Warnings
Age 13 and up. Minors are welcome, but will require a parent/guardian to be present and participating.
Blacksmithing involves a lot of hammering and working with red-hot metal.
Wear clothing appropriate for outdoor work, including closed toed shoes and natural fiber clothing (Cotton and wool good, nylon and polyester bad). Hot metal dropped onto synthetic materials can lead to burning goo sticking to skin - not a good thing.
Safety glasses, ear muffs, and aprons are available though you can bring your own if you'd rather.
Participation while wearing shorts and/or open-toed shoes/sandals will not be permitted. A limited number of pairs of "Boots of Shame" will be provided for those wearing shoes made of synthetic materials.
