About this Event

we will use raising techniques to make a cupped shape from a flat sheet of metal. If you want to make a spoon, there will be a second class to work on the handle. Or you can make earrings or a pendant instead.

For the spoon, you will need 20 or 22 gauge silver or copper sheet, big enough for the bowl, or for the bowl and handle if you want a one-piece spoon. For earrings or a pendant, 24 gauge sheet is sufficient, of the size for the piece you want to make. The thicker the sheet, the deeper a cup you can make.

Instructor will try to have some 22 gauge copper sheet available, for about $2. If you want silver sheet, you might try the Rock Barrell or Roseco, or order on-line.

There will be a lot of hammering - hearing protection is strongly recommended. We will need to anneal the pieces with the torch, so no loose hair, natural fiber clothing, closed-toe shoes - avoid any possibility of burns.
