Cabinet Making 101: Building the Drawers

This is designed to be a series, but feel free to sign up for any class, in any order, as we are going to look at different processes, different aspects in each class no/few perrequisites.

In this series, we are going to learn that if you want cheap cabinets, you can buy from the ‘discount’ stores for about the same cost as materials; thus it is assumed if you go to the trouble to build your own cabinets that you are looking for higher quality, versatility, features, and/or sizes.

The ‘exercise’ portion in this class will include trying out the different techniques for building quality drawers. we will stress techniques which do not utilize visible screws, staples, or nails.

We will look at (at least) three methods for building our drawers.

Dovetail joints
-- using the Leigh jig and Porter Cable Router(exercise)
-- using the Acra on the router table

Box joints
-- using the table saw and an indexing jig (exercise)

Rabet joints
-- using the table saw

Slip Joints
-- router and/or table saw

Part 2:

Discussion on slide types & fitting slides

We will have a break in the 'class' portion so that we can use the table saws and then we will come back to the Lecture hall and assemble a drawer...
