About this Event
This is a how-to class where we will be covering the proper way that professional jewelers use to clean and polish fine jewelry. This skill will support you in making your own jewelry as well!
We will cover safety, the use of the ultrasonic, and the use of the high speed buffing motor. I will also cover what types of stones cannot go into the ultrasonic safely.
PLEASE feel free to bring an item of your own jewelry (a ring or a pendant, no chains!) to polish and clean, as long as it is made of Silver, Gold, bronze, Brass or Platinum. DO NOT BRING CHAINS TO POLISH! Chains are difficult and dangerous to polish using the motor and I will not be covering it in this class.
Be advised I will be inspecting your jewelry beforehand and will have the final decision on whether or not you will polish it on this day or use the ultrasonic to clean it. If it has loose stones or certain types of stones we will not work on it.
The class is free, but it is suggested that you donate to the JSM committee to help cover the cost of polishing compounds and buffs, which are consumables.
Special Considerations and Warnings
- Safety glasses WILL BE REQUIRED!!!!
- Dust masks are highly recommended
- Closed toe shoes required
NO: overly loose fitting (i.e. baggy) clothing, dragging sleeves; unbound long hair; dangling/swinging jewelry and other accessories, or gloves. Sleeves will need to be rolled up when using the buffing motor.
