About this Event

This class will introduce you to the Dallas Makerspace Wood Shop, including shop rules and general expectations, and woodworking safe/best practices. Major woodworking tools will be covered, including use of the jointer, thickness planer, table saw, and miter saw. Basic steps of squaring up a rough piece of lumber will be covered via a hands-on approach by walking and talking through the standard process.

Do not be late. Students not present at the beginning of class forfeit their spot.

People wanting to standby should contact the Instructor directly to inquire 24 hours before class begins.

Special Considerations and Warnings

You must be 18 years of age or older to attend this class, and no exceptions will be granted. The instructor reserves the right to verify the age of all students before beginning class. Wood shop tools are inherently dangerous and the wood shop is not a place for children. Appropriate eye protection is required. DMS does make necessary protective gear available, but we highly suggest you bring your own safety glasses. They're $1.85 on Amazon Prime. Appropriate work shop attire is required including long pants/jeans, short sleeve shirt/top (or long sleeves with cuffs rolled above elbow), and sturdy closed-toe shoes or work boots. NO: overly loose fitting (i.e. baggy) clothing; unbound long hair; dangling/swinging jewelry and other accessories, or gloves.
