About this Event
This class will teach you how to use yarn and needles to make squares that are knit from two sides to one point (Please see example photos). This will be useful to knitters of all skill-levels, as mitered squares are used in modular projects of all kinds.
We will provide knitting needles, and yarn for those students who just wish to try their hand at these techniques in the class, and will have scissors and blunt ended sewing needles for use.
For those who are interested in learning and then practicing at home, please bring a smooth cotton worsted weight yarn (also known as 4 or Medium yarn) and a set of knitting needles in a size 7 or 8. This will allow you to use the square you will make in class as a wash cloth or dish towel. I recommend Peaches & Cream or Sugar & Cream brands as these can be found for very reasonable prices at Walmart and most craft stores. (Any worsted weight cotton will do, though.)
The images attached are only a couple examples of how these squares can be used.
Special Considerations and Warnings
This is an “advanced beginner” class. This means that you should be familiar with techniques such as casting on and the knit stitch. It would be helpful if you understand the knit two together and slip-slip-knit stitches, but this will be demonstrated in class. If you need to get up to speed in basic knitting skills, please join us on a Tuesday night at 7 P.M. You may also email the instructor at email@example.com to try to coordinate another day to learn.
