About this Event
Please read description in its entirety.
Creating this class has been a major undertaking in a short amount of time. This class is a 'dry run' of the materials which will be offered to the membership shortly. As such, it is limited to those machine shop people that will be teachers/helpers for the Tormach. Anyone signing up that wasn't invited will be turned down this time around. It is the intent of the class to solicit feedback for the slides, pace and the content that will allow people to be successful at using the CNC lathe.
------------------------------- Class synopsis follows ----------------------
Want to do CNC turning but don't want to learn to do CAD/CAM? Well, the Tormach lathe uses a Conversational Programming module to produce the necessary code for you. You answer some prompts and it does the rest. This is the Path Pilot Controller (PP) that Tormach offers. This class will teach you about all of the toolpath features the PP has available and how to control the lathe from PP to successfully and safely cut your design.
Class will consist of the Slides, Lecture, and interactive use of the PP hub - which is the simulator for the PP and which allows you to work from home to develop your design. Class will include an overview of each feature and how to answer the prompts, setting up your tools and their offsets, how to control the lathe to be able to successfully cut your design and differences between the Tormach 8L and larger CNC lathes, and how to deal with certain 'quirks' the 8L has.
For advanced users that use an external CAD/CAM package a section on loading external code will be included and what you can expect.
This is ONLY the programming side of the class. Another session for getting a hands-on checkout and unattended access to the machine will be offered soon so keep a look out for it.
Note: Why does this class need approval? First off, I don't allow standbys and we are limited by the number of people that can stand around the machine safely. I expect people to be adults and to be on time. If you sign up and don't show up - well short of an emergency it means you weren't really serious and your slot could have gone to someone else. that moves you to the BOTTOM of any future list. This class will only be offered by me every 6 weeks or so.
Note 2: For personal reasons I do not allow the video taping of my classes. Anyone trying to do so will be asked to leave.
