About this Event

Class 1 - **Please read thoroughly -This is 4 parts that must be taken back to back.
Attendees Require Approval. Do not try to get in some of the classes all 4 must be taken in sequence on this weekend.

Once you completed the 4 GlassWorks Kiln classes you should have the skill set to start and complete different types of basic glass projects.

To be cleared for the kiln after the 4th class you MUST enroll in all 4 GlassWorks Kiln classes This Weekend. ** If you have not registered for all 4 classes your entry will be rejected.*** This prevents delays in getting cleared to use the kiln, and keep things streamlined.

At the end of class 4, students will be required to manually enter a firing scheduled without assistance and pass a written test.

Fusing Class
***1.We will meet first in the GlassWorks kiln area. Please be on time.

We will start off opening up the kilns so the students get a look inside and discussing the below items;
Know Your Glass
What is a COE
How is a glass kiln different from a ceramic kiln.
What is a firing scheduled and why is it important to fire glass this way.
What is a Thermocouple
To vent or not to vent
Securing the kiln when it is being used
At what temperature should a mold or glass be removed from the kiln
What is" strike to" glass
Gassing out
what color is clear glass?

2. The class will then move to the Interactive classroom so students can spread out to assemble their 6x6 glass plate. Class Fee covers supplies.

Mask are required and 6 ft distancing are required.

The students will be practicing cutting glass, using the grinder, and preparing a 6in x 6in plate ready to fire at the end of the day.
We will be discussing:
• Using frits, powered frits, and stringers/noodle/ribbons.
• Safety gear (mask and goggles). Masks are required for powder frit.
• Fusing firing schedules
• How to reduce bubbles between sheets of glass
• Layering glass
• Capping
• Choosing your Glass thickness
• What to expect when firing 3mm glass- (Dog Bone)

Attendees Require Approval

Supplies are covered in the class fee. Your plate will be ready for pick up Sunday before the slumping class.

Once you have completed all 4 classes and pass the manual entry test & written test you will be cleared to use the GlassWorks kiln for you personals projects rt to teach project classes.

To teach GlassWorks **kiln** class you must take all 4 classes, pass the written test, complete 3 fused firings, 3 slump firings, 3 miscellaneous firings -(for example bottles, jewelry, Dichro) for a total of 9 firings.
