About this Event

About this Event
This is the first class of the Ceramic process to learn how to hand build a ceramics piece by slab-rolling, coiling, and/or pinching. You will need to come back for glazing to complete your project.

In this class you will:
Choose the desired technique for hand building your ceramic piece
Learn how to attach pieces together by scoring and using slip
Hand build a ceramic piece of your choice
Learn how to thoroughly clean the hand building work tables after finishing your ceramic piece
Learn the process of making ceramics at DMS to correctly store and place pieces on the shelves at each stage of the production process
Briefly get insight into the next steps taught in the following classes, Beginners Glazing 103

For the class fee charged you will be given 5lbs of cone 6 white stoneware clay to work with and take home any remaining clay you may have.

We hope that you will become a DMS member, if not already, and join us for our many other classes available.

Special Considerations and Warnings

Clay can be messy! Please wear clothes that you won’t mind getting dirty. Although not required, it is also recommended to have short fingernails as it is easier to hand build with shorter nails.

Social Distancing and masked are required. If you are not feeling well or have a low grade fever please do not attend. If you are not currently a DMS member you will need to arrive at least 15 minutes early to sign a waiver and be escorted to the Ceramics area.
