About this Event

Please read the Special Considerations (below) regarding appropriate clothing: no Nylon/synthetic/exposed skin shoes/clothing please. We're making great progress on attendees wearing appropriate clothing.

CLASS ATTENDANCE WILL BE LIMITED TO TEN STUDENTS. These classes tend to fill up, and we are restricting attendance to 10 students due to the resources and tooling needed for the class.

$10 to cover the cost of materials and fuel.

Each class will have a project to make with experienced instructors showing you the techniques required to build the project and take it home with you.

Join us to learn the basics of making hand forged iron and steel objects, no experience required. In this class we will be forging leaf key chains.

All tools and equipment are provided, so come out and have some fun building a new skill.

If you have some blacksmithing experience and would like instead to work on your own projects you can also come out for some open forge time.

Assistance before and after the event with setup (starting at 9:15am) and tear-down would be appreciated. Those anvils don't move themselves.

Special Considerations and Warnings

Age 18 and up. Age 16 and up with parent participation.

Blacksmithing involves a lot of hammering and working with red-hot metal.

Wear clothing appropriate for outdoor work, including closed toed, natural material shoes (leather preferred) and natural fiber clothing (Cotton and wool good, nylon and polyester bad). Hot metal dropped onto synthetic materials can lead to burning goo sticking to skin - not a good thing.

Safety glasses, ear muffs, and aprons are available though you can bring your own if you'd rather.

Participation while wearing shorts and/or open-toed shoes/sandals will not be permitted. A limited number of pairs of shoe covers will be provided for those wearing shoes made of synthetic materials.
