About this Event
Setting stones in metal can be a daunting process, especially if one is wary of using torches for soldering. In this class, participants will learn how to set fairly large cabochons or faceted rivoli stones in metal without using torches or soldering processes.
Materials required for the project include a fairly large cabochon or faceted rivoli stone (at least 40mm for the rivoli) and a piece of sterling or copper sheet metal that is at least 1/2" larger all the way around than the circumference of the chosen stone. These materials may be available from the instructor. Please contact the instructor by no later than November 14 if you need to purchase materials from her. Thank you.
Tools provided for use in the class include sketching materials, jeweler's saw frames and blades, bench pins, bench blocks, pliers, files, sanding materials, polishing materials, scribe, permanent markers, hole punch for metals, decorative stamps, texture plates for use in the rolling mill, and stamping hammer.
Additional tools that will be useful and should be provided by participants is an Optivisor or similar magnifying eyewear and a dust mask (especially if you have a sensitivity to particulates in the air).
