About this Event
Please read the Special Considerations (below) regarding appropriate clothing: no Nylon/synthetic shoes/clothing please. We're making great progress on wearing appropriate clothing..
$10 to cover the cost of materials and fuel.
Join us to learn the basics of making hand forged iron and steel objects, no experience required.
Each class will have a project to make with experienced instructors showing you the techniques required to build the project and take it home with you.
All tools and equipment are provided, so come out and have some fun building a new skill.
If you have some experience and would like to work on your own projects you can also come out for some open forge time.
Assistance with setup before (we'll be starting around 9am) and with tear-down afterwards would be appreciated.
Special Considerations and Warnings
Age 16 and up.
Blacksmithing involves a lot of hammering and working with red-hot metal.
Wear clothing appropriate for outdoor work, including closed toed shoes and natural fiber clothing (Cotton and wool good, nylon and polyester bad). Hot metal dropped onto synthetic materials can lead to burning goo sticking to skin - not a good thing.
Safety glasses, ear muffs, and aprons are available though you can bring your own if you'd rather.
Participation while wearing shorts and/or open-toed shoes/sandals will not be permitted. A limited number of pairs of shoe covers will be provided for those wearing shoes made of synthetic materials.
It is likely to still be quite warm (this is Texas after all) - this event takes place OUTSIDE. Bring sunscreen, a hat, and whatever other heat mitigation you like.
