About this Event
Tablet weaving, or card weaving, dates back to at least the 8th century BCE. It was a technique used in the production of cloth and to create freestanding narrow decorative bands.
Come learn the basics of this weaving technique! No prior experience required, and all materials provided. Participants will only need to bring a belt, rope, or other sturdy material to tie around their waist to attach the weaving to.
In this class we'll talk about the basic parts of a backstrap weaving setup, the specifics of setting up a tablet woven band, and will practice weaving several different patterns - as time allows.
Each student will be given a pre-measured warp of acrylic yarn, a set of "tablets" laser cut from cardstock, and a small belt shuttle - everything you need to make a band up to approximately 8' long.
Special Considerations and Warnings
Attendees will need to bring a belt, rope, or other sturdy material to tie around their waist - to attach the weaving to.
