About this Event

Though it might sound like a fancy coffee drink, mocha diffusion is a technique of ceramic surface decoration developed and used in the southwest of England. Through a reaction between acid and alkali, intricate veined patterns reminiscent of trees or ferns are created in this process.

We will be using several different acidic bases to create pattern variation. Both slip and the colorant bases will be provided. If you would like to bring leatherhard greenware pieces to decorate, please do so! If you do not have pottery ready for the class, never fear, we can experiment on temporary surfaces to perfect the application and designs before committing.
