About this Event
This is the first class of a two part beginners hand building class to learn the full ceramics process with hands on help from the teacher, starting by learning how to hand build a ceramics piece by slab-rolling, coiling, and/or pinching, glazing a piece, and ending with a finished product.
In this class you will:
Watch a demonstration showing the three handbuilding techniques: slab-rolling, coiling, and pinching
Choose the desired technique for hand building your ceramic piece (mug, bowl, box, etc…)
Learn how to attach pieces together by scoring and using slip
Hand build a ceramic piece of your choice
Learn how to thoroughly clean the hand building work tables after finishing your ceramic piece
Learn the process of making ceramics at DMS to correctly store and place pieces on the shelves at each stage of the production process
Briefly get insight into the next steps taught in the following classes, Beginners Glazing 103

Special Considerations and Warnings
Clay can be messy! Please wear clothes that you won’t mind getting dirty. Although not required, it is also recommended to have short fingernails as it is easier to hand build with shorter nails.
