About this Event

A wooden bottle stopper is a great starter project for lathe turning. After learning in this class you should be able to turn a stopper in under an hour on your own. We will be using SpectraPly dyed wooden blanks and stainless steel stoppers. The attached picture gives an example of a few SpectraPly bottle stoppers I have turned.

On top of making a fun project you will learn some more fundamentals on spindle turning and we will discuss beads and coves as well as rounding rough stock.

We will discuss the different stopper options and sources for the bottle stoppers and blanks.
I will turn a demo bottle stopper.
We will discuss different finishing options and I will finish the demo stopper.
You will finish the class turning your own bottle stopper and I will answer any questions.

Cost of the class covers a wooden Spectraply bottle stopper blank, a stainless steel bottle stopper base, and finishing supplies.

Special Considerations and Warnings

Wood Lathe Basics is required to attend this class.

Please bring a dust mask. The Woodshop is unable to clear all the dust and when turning you do not want to breathe the dust.
