About this Event

Welding, Plasma, and friggin-hot metal. That is the fun stuff in the metal shop. This class covers our mandatory safety for operating heavy machinery and is the pre-requisite for machine-side classes scheduled after June 1st, 2019.
Completion of this course allows for taking all the machine side classes for our heavy and hot equipment (registering for this class also allows for requesting instructor approval to schedule the machine class).
If you have prior experience welding, after the class we can perform a "Show Me You Can Weld" and you may skip the machine-side class upon completion of a spot-exam.

If performing the spot exam for a welder at the end of the class, please be wearing appropriate attire described in the Restrictions and Warnings section.

Special Considerations and Warnings

Please note, this only applies if attending the optional, subsequent "Show me you can weld" exam after the class. There will be high heat and scalding metal.
Each examinee should have as a minimum:
- closed toe shoes, leather or natural cloth. Synthetics can melt.
- natural fiber shirts and full-length pants, such as Cotton or leather. Otherwise fire rated materials are acceptable
- Your own welding equipment if you own it, otherwise loaner equipment will be provided.

Any student that does not have the above will be turned away from the welding exam, and required to schedule it at a different time or attend a machine-side class.
