About this Event

Powder Coating, the Cadillac of tool & part finishes. This class provides training on safe operation of the metal shop large oven, instruction on operation of the spray gun, part preparation, and finishing. By the end of the class each student should be able to comfortably powder coat small parts, and with a little extra planning even powder coat large items like a bumper.
Cost of the class covers upkeep of the equipment and materials (work piece, powder, and servicing the equipment).

If a student wishes, they may bring their own piece to powder coat or their own powders but must first receive approval from the instructor.

Special Considerations and Warnings

This class involves a large oven with a high heat output. The same precautions as other hot metalwork should be followed.
Each student should have as a minimum:
- closed toe shoes, leather or natural cloth. Synthetics can melt.
- natural fiber shirts and full-length pants, such as Cotton or leather. Otherwise fire rated materials are acceptable
- last but not least safety glasses (of course the shop loaners all around are acceptable, but will be fairly scratched up)

Any student that does not have the above is liable to be turned away; don't expect the loaner PPE to be available at all times.

Optional, but recommended if you have particular sensitivity or have a unit available
- dust mask for use when spraying. NIOSH P100 is a good filter for general particulate matter.

We have some loaner equipment for things like leather shoe covers and aprons, but please do not rely on these being available since we have a limited number and other makers may be using them during the class.

Weather: We will be spraying outside; please consider appropriate attire.

Possible class rescheduling due to weather. If it is raining, we may have to put the class on hold. Depending on the conditions we can wait it out, or I will have to put up another class (fee will not be charged for the new time). If students cannot make the new class in the event of such a reschedule, I will offer them some one on one time.
