About this Event

Got a model?

No, not the catwalk kind.
The 3D kind.

Looking to get it made on a printer here at the Makerspace or at home, or wherever 3D printers can be found?
(Pro tip, they can’t be found in the wild. This isn’t Pokemon GO!)

Well.. you can’t just drag and drop your file into a printer queue.

First you have to slice it.

Wow, that kinda sounds scary, right?

Well, its not.
In fact, talking about slicing is what 3D printing people do.
All day.
Every day.

And also slicing prints.

On a computer.

Because we’re nerds.

Slicing is the process of taking your virtual model and getting it ready in a way that a 3D fabrication machine can understand and follow.

Its basically the printer’s how to build manual.

And this manual is better than the one you get with your Ikea furniture.
Unless of course Ikea is selling 3D printers now, in which case I might be out of a job…
but probably not.
You've seen their instruction manuals.

But here at the Makerspace, it can be as easy as a few button clicks.

And Cura is where we make those clicks.

Come learn about Cura, a wonderful user friendly slicing program.

Plus, Cura is completely free!

This course will give a basic overview of:
<> the many slicing programs available,
<> provide an in-depth tutorial on using Cura to prepare your prints,
<> how to use Cura to slice your prints, with a focus on analyzing the default profiles and settings for the Makerspace Polyprinters and Rostock MAX delta printer,
<> tips for slicing prints in general.

Special Considerations and Warnings

This course is not required to use the Makerspace 3D printers, merely to teach the basics of the Cura slicing program. See the 100 series of 3D Printing courses for certification on the various machines available.
