About this Event
This is a 'hands-on' class...
We have an old engine which was removed from a vehicle, so we are going to throw it up on the engine stand and tear it apart.
We will have a discussion of how to 'follow' fire, fuel, and air- the three basic things required to make an engine run.
First we will discuss safety... How to correctly work on an engine at Makerspace, then we will start pulling parts off.
We will identify each part of the engine as we take it off the engine and discuss the basics of what it does and how one might troubleshoot. Our 'example' engine was donated to DMS, so we will be doing a 'real-world' inspection to determine the 'health' of this engine. We will likely never re-assemble this engine, as there are several 'real' engines which need rebuilding, so we can 'have fun' with this engine and use it as a learning tool without the 'caution' that we may exercise on an engine which is going to be rebuilt. This is also a good chance to see what tools we have at DMS for this type of work...
If you have ever been curious to learn more about your engine, but you aren't willing just to tear open an otherwise 'good' engine, this is a good chance to learn and build your confidence.
We have other classes to discuss suspension, brakes, electrical and other systems, so in this class we are going to focus on the 'engine' and attempt to stay on-topic.
Special Considerations and Warnings
Bring your questions, and your curiosity... and if you are over 21 years old, you are welcome to bring adult beverages...
Note: we are reserving the engine lift and the space in front of the Green tool box... The Motorsports guys will have the lift and members are welcome to use the space next to the parts washer, as available... We will meet in front of the Green toolbox...
